The Beginning

After years of being primarily focused on development and technology, I recently felt a pull toward something more creative and visual. Photography had always intrigued me, but I never made the time to seriously explore it. That changed this month.

Why Photography?

As someone who spends most of their day looking at code and screens, I realized I was missing out on actively observing the world around me. Photography seemed like the perfect way to:

  • Develop a creative outlet that complements my technical skills
  • Practice mindfulness by being more present and observant
  • Document my learning journey in a visual way
  • Challenge myself with something completely outside my comfort zone

The 30-Day Challenge

Instead of just jumping in casually, I decided to commit to a structured approach: taking one meaningful photograph every day for 30 days. This challenge isn’t about creating perfect images from day one, but rather about:

  1. Building a habit of daily practice
  2. Experimenting with different subjects and techniques
  3. Reflecting on what works and what doesn’t
  4. Documenting the learning process

Equipment & Approach

I’m starting simple with basic equipment and focusing on learning fundamentals rather than getting caught up in gear. My approach is to:

  • Learn composition basics (rule of thirds, leading lines, etc.)
  • Understand natural lighting
  • Practice with different subjects (portraits, landscapes, street photography)
  • Experiment with editing (but not rely on it too heavily)

What’s Next?

Each day of the challenge will be documented here on the blog, along with reflections on what I learned. I’m also building a gallery to showcase the photos and track my progress.

The goal isn’t perfection – it’s growth, learning, and developing an eye for the world around me. I’m excited to see where this journey takes me and hope sharing it might inspire others to pick up a new creative pursuit.
